The Communist Manifesto of 1848, the most famous and influential document of modern times and possibly- after the Bible-the most widely read, is here presented in an edition particularly suitable for the modern student. The Manifesto is reproduced from the most distinguished edition of the work ever done in English. Printed from type hand-set for a limited edition in 1933, it is most readable and typographically pleasing. Principles of Communism is an important document which Engels drafted as a basis for the Manifesto. Done in catechism form, it is extremely lucid, serves to clarify many points about the Manifesto, and covers topics and ideas not discussed in the Manifesto. It is indispensable for the study of The Communist Manifesto, and appears here in a new translation by Paul M. Sweezy. The Communist Manifesto After 100 Years is an inter pretative essay on the Manifesto by two modern Marsists, Paul M. Sweezy and Leo Huberman, the co-editors of the independent socialist journal, Monthly Review. It puts the ideas of Marx and Engels into a modern con text and will thus assist every student to form his own opinions about the present-day relevance of the Manifesto.
